The Cost of Silence
"First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me, and there was no one left to speak for me."
—Martin Niemöller
When you choose not to speak on a topic, you still communicate a message. When you do not take action, you convey your opinion. While you can make a case of virtue for holding back, you also risk a great injustice. If not now for another person, later as a result of having done or said nothing.
