Preparation vs. Routine: How to Stay Effective

“The best preparation for tomorrow is doing your best today.” — H. Jackson Brown Jr.

Listen to instruction and gain wisdom so that you are not seen as a fool twice by the same person. This way, they will perceive your folly as a mere stumble and not the full measure of your character.

When it comes to preparation versus routine, remember that routines are not always productive. Preparation is a crucial stage of work and is mandatory for increasing your probability of success. However, be cautious not to become so rigid in your adherence to routine that you lose resilience.

If a routine or preparation method helps you mentally or physically perform better, that’s good. But remember, regardless of your preparation, you must perform. Don’t tell yourself, “Because I cannot prepare or follow my routine, I will not do the work.” Instead, prioritize your time more effectively. Become resilient and step into the arena. Do the work. Outcomes do not care whether you followed your pregame routine, or how you feel. They only care about the results. Don’t handcuff yourself to routines that only get you ready—be ready.
