Nothing New Under the Sun

A wise man (DK 53-18) once told me that there’s nothing new under the sun. Since the time of the Roman Empire, people have remained the same, driven by the same desires and pursuits, both good and bad. What you must recognize is that the feelings or experiences you’re facing have happened before. This is not the first time, and it won’t be the last.

Avoid self-pity, and just as importantly, do not think too highly of yourself for what you’ve accomplished or experienced. What you’ve gone through is neither unique nor unprecedented. These same things will be felt and endured by those who come after you.
