Instinct vs. Impulse

Impulses are (and always will be) subconscious, arriving instantaneously without thought. Instincts, however, are developed over time, honed with practice, and can be embedded into the subconscious. Impulses must be caught, while instincts are taught.

Impulses are caught by your mind and must be controlled or at least examined before responding. Impulsive people are reactive, emotional, and irrational. In contrast, instinctive people are responsive, insightful, or even semmingly clairvoyant.

Train your instincts and trust them to guide you. Question your impulsive thoughts. One aims to protect and guide you, while the other often leads to erosion (or even destruction), the forming bad habits, and poor decisions
