Embrace Quiet, Speak Wisely

“Speak only if it improves upon the silence.” – Mahatma Gandhi

There is a calming peace in the quiet that fills a room. You choose not to speak simply to fill the space. The pauses—whether long or short—are enough for you. Speaking just to break the silence feels unnecessary, even wasteful.

You observe others who speak carelessly, filling the air with endless chatter, their voices becoming like a drunken fool’s rambling. Their words are a nuisance, a buzzing like mosquitoes or flies, prompting others to metaphorically swat them away. Such verbosity often leads to irritation, causing people to distance themselves, weary of the noise.

How unfortunate is the one who rambles endlessly, unheard because the sheer volume of their words drowns out any meaningful conversation. Their voice becomes background noise, indistinguishable from the hum of life around them. Their audience, uncomfortable and disinterested, longs for relief.

Do not become like the child pestering their parent with endless, aimless words. Do not be the rash that cannot be soothed or the unpleasant odor people wish to escape. Instead, embrace the silence. Let it be a source of peace and clarity.

Speak with intention.
