Bridging the Talent Gap

There exists a gap between actual, God-given talent and perceived talent. Perceived talent is often masked by hard work. People assume that because we have worked hard at something for a long time, we are talented in this area. You must be honest with yourself and realize that your hard work may never allow you to enter the arena of those with God-given talent. Equally, you must not become disenchanted by those you witness squandering God-given talent, avoiding the hard work you willingly subject yourself to.

There is a way to cross this chasm, and it comes in the form of discipline and humility. To close the gap between what is God-given and perceived, you must be willing to fail millions of times. You must be willing to learn, do more than others, and do things differently than others. This effort will require a different level of discipline.

On this journey, you will be required to negate society’s pull to be satisfied with where you are, who you are, and even how you look. How much easier is it to take a pill, join a group, or accept mediocrity? This is unacceptable. The key is to know and understand yourself. Be confident in who you are but do something to become proud of your journey: where you have been and where you are going. This is not a static thing nor something you have, or ever will, fully achieve. Society stalls out and goes extinct when it becomes satisfied and stagnant.
