Assumptions vs. Inquiries
Inconsiderate behavior, even if innocent, can poison the well of friendship. Instead, be mindful and attentive. Whether it is only for a passing moment or for a day, your charitable and unselfish engagement can sway a person’s preferences.
Be careful not to assume you know the preferences of others. Their likes and dislikes are constantly changing, just like your own, based on their experiences.
The act of inquiry is a valuable tool to assist you in navigating even the most challenging company. While you may assume you know a person, your inquisitive nature can reveal something new. Do not assume and be seen as a fool; simply inquire. What does it cost you to take a brief moment to ask about a thing? It may confirm your assumption, or, if not, you’ve learned something new about your companion.
Avoid risking discontent and being seen as inconsiderate. Make it a habit to inquire and be seen as someone who values and respects those you interact with. Strengthen bonds and avoid eroding your reputation with unverified assumptions.
